Dear Pastor
Maybe I´m not the most appropriate to write this letter. The only thing I know about you is what I´ve seen in the news. Your zeal for the Lord and his Word are unquestionable but with all the respect I want to write to you from my position as a layperson. The Gospels and the history of the church in the 1st century, in part contained in the book of Acts and the epistles are clear that the main message of God is the love. Love God and your neighbor. You, more than I, know the reach of the word “neighbor”. Revelation says that in the heaven there is going to be a nation with these characteristics described in Revelation 5:9-10:
"You are worthy to take the scroll and open its seals, because you were slain, and by your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe, language, people, and nation. You made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they will rule on earth."
God wants a diverse town, with ethnics, cultural and linguistic differences, from different places, and that in these people, the word be totally represented.
In these nation are included from the smallest human settlement (tribe), to the biggest ones (nation).
God wants to bring people from countless and diverse religious beliefs to an only kingdom where He is The Only King and Sovereign.
To reach this purpose he established the church. A church that must witness about what God is. With people that first of all, must be loving (Following the example of the Father, John 3:16), Holy, Pure and Blameless. The message of the Lord was confrontational (we have to understand times and contexts), but it always had a strong dose of love.
For the firsts centuries for Christians being a martyr was worthless. They didn´t thought they were worth to die like their Lord, but they gave their lives rather than deny it. It was a joy to give life for the love to his Lord. Nevertheless, the message didn’t change.
When John writes the three letters (year 90DC approximately), the message is still the same even though for that time many Christians had died for the cause of faith, and all of the apostles had been martyred. (The last one to die is precisely John, and apparently the only one that died for natural causes).
Our work as Church is to bring close all of those God´s people. (I know missionaries that have done a great and special work among Muslims and they have built churches where now they meet freely to worship God, even if the risks are there)
How do we get close to God those towns? Showing God how God is. Why people are not getting closer to God? Because they thing God is like us. In other words, the message we give when we burn Koran is: “God, instead of loving them, instead of wanting them for his kingdom, he wants to eliminate you”. What kind of person would get close if they think that God is their enemy, and they think that precisely for our attitudes.
You, like a wise man and with experience in the ministry should know that there are many religious factions inside the Muslims. The Muslim minority is radical and aggressive, and because of their wrong interpretation of Koran assumes the Jihad like a war against the unfaithful ones, but Jihad is first of all (according to Koran) the war of each Muslim with their own flesh, with their own sinful tendency.
(Please read http://bereanocomprueba.blogspot.com/2011/05/en-que-condiciones-y-circunstancias-las.html). Radical Muslims show a wrong face of Islam when they act with hatred and violence. The same way, we as Christians, show a wrong face of the gospel when we do the same.
To bring people close, we have to love them, Christ paid a price in the cross for them. To love them is not about challenging them, it´s about showing God´s goodness and love for them with attitudes and the behavior of the church.
Our devotion to God can´t lead to violence, it must be expressed in love.
You know the result of the burning of the Koran. Unfortunately those things happen. Let's not go back to repeat history.

Quizás soy el menos indicado para escribir esta carta. Lo único que se de usted es lo que he visto en las noticias. Su celo por el Señor y su Palabra son incuestionables pero con todo respeto quiero dirigirme a usted desde mi posición de laico. Los evangelios y la historia de la Iglesia del siglo I en parte contenida en el libro de los hechos y las epístolas dejan claro que el mensaje principal de Dios es el amor. Amar a Dios y al prójimo. Usted más que yo sabe el alcance de la palabra prójimo. Apocalipsis dice que en el cielo va a haber un pueblo con las características descrita en Apocalipsis 5:9-10: “Y cantaban un cántico nuevo, diciendo:
Digno eres de tomar el libro y de abrir sus sellos, porque tú fuiste inmolado, y con tu sangre compraste para Dios a gente de toda tribu, lengua, pueblo y nación. Y los has hecho un reino y sacerdotes para nuestro Dios; y reinarán sobre la tierra.
Encontramos en la adoración a Dios un pueblo comprado con la sangre de Cristo, integrado por gente de toda tribu, lengua, pueblo y nación que ahora hacen parte de un reino (El Reino de Dios) y todos tienen una única dignidad: Son sacerdotes, con una cosa en común: Todos reinaran sobre la tierra.
Dios quiere a un pueblo diverso, con diferencias étnicas, culturales, lingüísticas, de distintos lugares y que en este pueblo el mundo este representado en su totalidad. Incluye en este pueblo desde el asiento humano más pequeño (Tribu), hasta el más grande (Nación).
Dios quiere traer a gente de innumerables y diversas creencias religiosas a un reino único donde El Es El Único Rey y Soberano.
Para lograr su propósito estableció la Iglesia. Una Iglesia que debe dar testimonio de lo que Dios es. Un pueblo que debe ser amoroso antes que nada (Siguiendo el ejemplo del Padre, Juan 3:16), Santo, Puro e Irreprensible. El mensaje del Señor aunque fue confrontador (Hay que entender los tiempos y contextos), siempre llevo una fuerte dosis de amor.
Para los cristianos del primer siglos ser mártires era una indignidad. Ellos no se creían dignos de morir como su Señor, pero daban la vida antes que negarlo. Era un gozo ofrendar la vida por amor a su Señor. Sin embargo el mensaje no cambio. Cuando Juan escribe las tres cartas (Alrededor del año 90 DC), el mensaje sigue siendo el mismo a pesar de que para ese tiempo muchos cristianos habían muerto a causa de la fe y todos los apóstoles habían sido martirizados. (El último que muere es precisamente Juan y es el único que al parecer falleció de causas naturales).
Nuestra labor como Iglesia es acercar a todos estos pueblos a Dios. (Conozco misioneros que han hecho una magnifica y especial labor entre musulmanes y han construido iglesias donde ya se reúnen libremente a adorar a Dios aunque el riesgo esta ahí).
¿Cómo acercamos a Dios a estos pueblos?. Mostrandole a Dios como Dios es. ¿Por qué la gente no se acerca a Dios?. Por que cree que Dios es como nosotros. En otras palabras el mensaje que damos al quemar un Corán es: “Dios en vez de amarlos, en vez de quererlos en su reino, quiere es acabar con ustedes”. Que persona se acercaría a Dios si cree y piensa que Dios es su enemigo y lo creen precisamente por las actitudes nuestras.
Usted como hombre sabio y de experiencia en el ministerio debe saber que hay varias facciones religiosas dentro de los musulmanes. La minoría musulmán es radical y agresiva y por una mala interpretación del Corán asumen la Jihad como una guerra contra los infieles siendo que la Jihad ante todo (según el Corán) es la guerra de cada musulmán con su propia carne, con su propia tendencia pecaminosa. Ellos muestran una imagen que no es, al igual que nosotros los cristianos cuando actuamos como no es.
Para acercar a los pueblos hay que amarlos, Cristo pago un precio en la cruz por ellos. Amarlos no es desafiarlos, amarlos es mostrar la bondad y el amor de Dios hacia ellos por las actitudes y comportamiento de la Iglesia.
Nuestra devoción a Dios no puede derivar en violencia, debe expresarse en amor.
Usted sabe el resultado de la primera quema del Corán. Lamentable que estas cosas sucedan. No volvamos a repetir la historia.
